There are mixed opinions on this. The truth is the answer will be different for everyone but a little guidance is good for anyone. Some people may need fewer visits than others and this all depends on your current oral health.
For example, if you are somebody who has maintained excellent dental care over the years and have very little or no fillings at all, then the chances are you may only need to visit the dentist once or twice a year, but rest assured you do still need to visit the dentist for reasons explained a little further on.
For someone who has a few fillings or has had other dental work done in the past or people with a high risk of dental disease then they are likely to need to go more often to either the dentist or the hygienist or both, approximately every 3-4 months.
Only a dentist can actually give anybody a truthful answer on this matter though. A dentist would need to assess your oral health and look at what work has been done previously if any. Your current state of oral health is very important to be able to determine the regularity of your visits.
People can however get caught out here. People may think that their oral health is great and that they never need to see a dentist. This is where they are wrong. Even people with healthy gums and teeth need to see a dentist because the dentist can pick up on things that we can’t. Things that we are not medically qualified to see.
They can detect any underlying issues that could flare up to be big problems in the future. Catching little problems early on can save us pain and pounds!! And we all like to save a few pounds!
The problem is, many of us don’t realise this until we have experienced pain that has come somewhat out of the blue. Something maybe a routine X-ray early on could have picked up on early on, this could have been avoided. This is why it is very important to keep up with your dental visits, to prevent any big surprise treatments.
Just imagine the money that you could save by maintaining a healthy mouth. Just imagine what you could spend that on….
It’s important to find yourself a good dental practice and dentist that you enjoy visiting. Private dental practices make patient care their priority and are able to dedicate enough time to provide excellent patient care. People are more likely to visit the dentist if they like the practice and the people that work there.
