What would a dentist do for a toothache?

A toothache can be really unpleasant. It is very important you only go to a qualified dental professional for help, advice and treatment. It depends on the cause of a toothache. If it is a small hole in a tooth, then a simple temporary or permanent filling will solve the problem. If it is a deep cavity then sometimes a larger filling or root filling may be required, or the tooth can have a sedative dressing placed to help alleviate the pain. Sometimes an infection may be causing the pain and antibiotics may be prescribed in order to reduce swelling/pain. Sometimes a tooth may not be savable and the last resort may require extraction of the tooth.
