How can I take care of my gums?

Gums are very sensitive parts of our mouth. They have to be taken care of since they are easily infected. Gum diseases are not notice because; when gums contract a disease they are painless. Gum diseases are brought by poor oral hygiene. When you do not clean your teeth regularly a sticky substance called plaque forms around the teeth and gums. The plaque contains bacteria builds up and it causes infections to the gums. This infection is very destructive. The plaque leads to an early gum disease called gingivitis.

The early sign that show you have gum disease include swollen, red, and tender gums, foul breath, loose teeth and gums that are pulled and bleed easily. The good thing about gum diseases is that it is reversible. The most interesting of them is that it can be prevented. You are advised to keep them clean and healthy before the most destructive stage called periodontitis gets you. This infects the bones and connective tissues supporting them; if they are infected you will be forced to remove the teeth. Some of the preventable measures of gum disease include

FREQUENT DENTAL CLEANING 

Visit a dentist regularly. This is helpful because they first notice any change in one’s oral cavity. They detect early symptoms of gum disease and treat them. Dental cleaning by a specialist is essential since your mouth is professionally cleaned and any plaque that had remained during flossing or brushing is removed. Your oral cavity remains healthy and clean.

FLOSSING 

This is a helpful technique that you should do every day. Other than brushing, flossing removes any particle of food that had stack between the teeth. The food between the teeth that the brush cannot remove is gotten rid of. It is helpful especially after every meal you floss to avoid bacteria building up in areas that cannot be brushed.

BRUSH AFTER EVERY MEAL 

You have to take care of the teeth after taking care of the stomach. You are advised to brush the teeth after every meal. Scrub gently but thoroughly in that the gums, tongue and teeth are cleaned so that they do not harbour bacteria. To achieve this you have to own a quality toothbrush advisably an electric or battery powered. The brush should fit your oral cavity well and should have soft bristles. The toothbrush should be changed after three months so as it continues to serve its purpose. This will reduce the risk of contracting a gum disease that is expensive to treat than brushing daily.

BRUSH WITH A TOOTHPASTE THAT CONTAINS FLUORIDE 

To have healthy gums, fresh breath and white teeth you have to brush using fluoride toothpaste. This substance helps in cleaning and killing 99% bacteria in the mouth. It leaves your oral cavity fresh and free from diseases. The toothpaste containing this substance is a bit expensive but worth it.

THERAPEUTIC MOUTHWASH 

Use mouthwash is essential as it reduces the number of bacteria in your mouth that leads to formation of a plaque that brings gum diseases. The dental clinics have different therapeutic mouthwashes that you use that are safe and effective. It does a lot like removing debris and food remains in the mouth.

REDUCE SUGARY AND STARCHY FOOD 

Take healthy food and a lot of water. The food you eat and the drinks you take contribute to your oral health. Eat a balanced diet that contains plenty of vegetables and fruits. Any food that contributes to a healthy oral cavity should be included in a daily diet. Sugary and starchy foods should be taken in moderation because they are a big problem to your oral hygiene.

TAKE CARE OF THE MILK TEETH 

The baby should be thought to brush their teeth. This helps them avoid gum diseases at an early age since plaque build-up in the mouth regardless of age. If the baby regularly brushes the teeth and eats healthy it will not contract any oral disease. Brushing is incorporated in them and they will never stay a single day without cleaning their teeth. Parents have to take care of their young one’s gums before they get the worst gum diseases them later in life.

QUIT SMOKING AND DRINK ALCOHOL IN MODERATION 

For healthy gums you have to stop smoking and drink alcohol with moderation. These luxuries have so many effects on our health. Smoking can lower our immune system therefore cannot fight a disease like that for gums. An alcoholic also weakens his or her immune. Being drunk for a long time without brushing or flossing gives room for bacteria to build up and eventually causing oral diseases. It also erodes the outer surface of the tooth that may reach the gums and bring health problems. The worst of them all is mouth cancer that is common among smokers and heavy drinkers.
