How Often Should You See a Dental Hygienist

Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential for overall health, and regular visits play a crucial role in achieving this.

How Often Should You Visit?

The frequency of dental hygienist appointments can vary from person to person. However, a general guideline is to schedule an appointment every six months. This biannual schedule allows for regular cleanings and check-ups, helping to maintain your oral health effectively.

The Benefits

There are many benefits to seeing one regularly as it offers numerous benefits:

1. Preventive Care

Regular cleanings help prevent gum disease, cavities, and other oral health issues.

2. Early Detection

They can spot dental problems early, allowing for timely treatment.

3. Improved Oral Health

Professional cleanings leave your mouth fresh and clean, promoting better oral hygiene habits.

4. Whiter Smile

Removing stains and plaque buildup can make your teeth appear whiter and brighter.

What Happens at a Dental Hygienist Appointment?

The hygienist will examine your teeth and gums, looking for any signs of issues like cavities or gum disease. We can then determine a treatment that is suitable for you. We offer three different treatments scale and polish, ultra white polish and fresh breath polish.

Scale and polish: this involves the removal of tatar to help achieve healthy gums. We use special tools such as an ultrasonic scaler for stain elimination.

Ultra white polish: This treatment helps to remove debris by polishing the teeth. At Birchgrove Dental we use a Prophyflex that jets water and compressed air as well as sodium bicarbonate elements to the teeth. This helps to remove tough stains from your teeth.

Fresh breath polish: Our other hygiene treatment helps to eliminate bad breath. We use a UtraDEX odour solution that helps to remove bad odours leaving you with fresh breath.

So how often should you visit the dental hygienist? Regular visits are essential for maintaining good oral health. These appointments are generally painless, last around 30 minutes to an hour, and offer a wide range of benefits. Following the recommended schedule of seeing a dental hygienist every six months can help you achieve a healthy and beautiful smile while preventing dental problems before they become serious. So, don’t hesitate to schedule your next appointment and invest in your oral well-being.
